Sick :(

There is nothing worse than being sick. It feels like everything hurts right now. I am a real baby when it comes to illness. It feels like I can't even lift my head by myself. The only time I can find some peace is when I am sleeping. I hate being sick.

NASA spots furthest galaxy

Furthest galaxy

NASA has just confirmed that they have spotted the furthest galaxy away from us. This galaxy is about 13.2 billion lightyears away. Hubble first spotted the galaxy back in 2009 but NASA has confirmed that it is the oldest known galaxy in existence. The collection of stars is over 150 million years older than previous galaxies recorded.

Today was our discussion in class. It was a lot better then I thought it would be. Normally with discussions as difficult as this one, I would be the one who observes rather then speaks but I decided to speak up and let my voice be heard. The thoughts and opinions that were expressed today really changed my view on health care. Before this class, I didn't know anything about the bill. This class has really changed that. Our class discussion has brought out a lot of questions and answers. Where does the money come from? Who does this bill help and hurt? Why bother with a health care plan at all? The money used comes from us. This bill will help the people and hurt the greedy businesses. And we bother because our country needs a change. Our class discussion was very riveting today and I'm glad that I took part in it.

Tutoring

Today, I am officially a tutor. I was hired by Ms.Sanchez and helped her 11 year old daughter, Izzy, with math today. I was so nervous! I haven't attempted to do pre algebra since 6th grade! My boyfriend, Isaac, believed in me though. He said that I would do great but he is biased so he didn't count. I got there at 5:30 and stayed for an hour. We went over probability. It was kind of embarrassing because it took me like 5 minutes to remember how to do it. We went through her worksheet pretty well though. There were a few problems where I would mess up but for the most part, I had it under control. So I stayed there for an hour and I am going to go there every Thursday for an hour! :) This is my first job and I'm really excited.

US Missionary killed

Missionary killed for truck

Recently, a US missionary, Nancy Davis 59, was shot about 70 miles south of the Mexican border. It appears that she was shot for the truck that she and her husband, Sam Davis, were driving. They were in a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, which is popular with drug cartels. Davis took a bullet to the head and her husband rushed her to the hospital but she unfortunately died from her injury.

I found it interesting that Davis's friend, Maryanne Wheeler, told KRGV-TV that "Who you need to feel sorry for is the Mexican people, because for 40 years she has unreservedly, unconditionally loved, reached out to the Mexican people." It made me question how someone could point a gun to a stranger so easily and shoot with no regrets. Some person killed an innocent stranger just for her car. It's amazing how ruthless people can be.

Lethal Injection?

Death Penalty in Flux?

Apparently, the one and only U.S company that supplied the drugs for lethal injection has stopped production. The company has stopped making sodium thiopental, the sedative, because they wanted to switch to an Italian manufacturing plant. The manufacturing plant told the company that the only way they would allow the switch is that there is assurance that the drug will not be used for executions. What does this mean for the death penalty? Death penalty proponents like Dudly Sharp are saying that the court system will try to delay executions but are offering alternatives for the convicts.

I thought that this article was interesting just because the topic of capital punishment is so controversial. Who says that we have the right to judge a person's right to live? Then again, what gives these criminals a right to live when they are able to hurt and take lives so easily? I personally believe that there should not be capital punishment. I think a life in prison would be a far better punishment. Why would we want to take away their pain by ending their life early? Let them think about what they have done, the pain that they have caused.

State of Union Speech Numbers

State of Union Speech in Numbers

This article is a small piece about our presidents speeches in the past. It gives us the numbers from their speeches. For example, President William Howard Taft was the one who delivered the longest speech with 22,614 words. Then there was the shortest speech, written by President George Washington. The article states that "The State of the Union messages are mandated by Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution, which states that the president "shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." I thought it was interesting that we had two presidents (William Henry Harrison and James Garfield) who didn't give any speech. I really just thought that this piece was entertaining.

I think I can now blog from my phone.... I hope this works! It can save me for going to the computer!

Blogging

I have actually been meaning to go on here and blog but I really just don't like computers. I have never been one who is "tech savvy." But.. I figure I will blog about what I wanted to blog about.

Yesterday, my wonderful boyfriend, Isaac, tried to teach me how to ride a bike. This was of course, a disaster. There is a reason why I have avoided this... I was an absolute baby and screamed. I tried to be brave but let's face it, I wasn't. At all. I made him hold on the whole time and somehow the peddles started moving backwards so I freaked out and tried to jump off. I think we spent a good 10 minutes on the bike before he began to feel guilty about it. It was sweet of him to try and teach me though. You would think that if both my dad and brother and cyclist, that I would at least know how to sit on the darn bike, but nope! Maybe someday I will get the courage to ride but that's not happening today.

Today, was Jaime's birthday so we went hiking up in Forest Falls. It was actually really fun! I have never been hiking like this before! We were climbing over rocks, jumping over logs to get to the other side of the river, and were just having fun! We ended up going to this huge water fountain! It was soooo pretty. I was terrified of the thought of someone getting hurt (because I am a MAJOR worry wart) but I really did have a great experience. I'm glad that I went.

So, I am really going to try to blog more. Even though no one will ever read it, it's okay! It still feels good just to have. Of course, this does mean that I will have to start getting on the computer more often. I will get use to it though.

Two Students Shot When Gun Goes Off at California High School

Collins, Hugh. "Two Students Shot When Gun Goes Off at California High School."Aolnews.com. Aol, 18 Jan. 2011. Web. 18 Jan. 2011. <http://www.aolnews.com/2011/01/18/california-school-shooting/?icid=maing|main5|dl1|sec1_lnk5|37099>

Today, two teens got shot at Gardena High school in California. Apparently, a male sophomore brought a gun to school in his bag and it accidentally went off while he slammed his bag on his desk. The bullet grazed a young man's neck then went and hit a young girl's head. The girl is in critical condition. The shooter then apologized to his class and tried to escape, but he was quickly caught by police.
